What is Reiki?

The word Reiki is a Japanese word, and it means free passage (rei) of Universal Life Force Energy (ki), an energy that is all around us. Life force Energy is called 'chi' in Chinese and 'prana' in India. Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.

The therapist is a channel through which the energy is drawn by the need or imbalance in the recipient. Reiki will give the recipient what they need in terms of healing energy. The therapist holds his/her hands over different areas of the body in turn, allowing the clients body to accept this healing energy as and where it is needed, supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself.

I often include this in my Bowen Plus treatments if the client so wishes.
I can sense with my hands on which parts of the body this would be most beneficial and the client is usually aware of the heat emanating from my hands during a Reiki treatment.
